My collaboration with Greg Bufithis and his production company, Luminative Media, began in 2013 when it was still called Project Counsel Media. Over the years, we’ve built a creative partnership rooted in our shared passion for history, technology, and visual storytelling. We specialize in documentary tech video production that bridges journalism, education, and investigative filmmaking.
Conference Coverage and Tech Video Production
Initially, we focused on fast-paced event coverage at major industry gatherings. These included the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, the Frankfurt Book Fair, and the International Journalism Festival in Perugia. These projects required quick turnarounds and the ability to capture the energy of large-scale tech conferences. At the same time, we needed to distill complex topics into compelling visual narratives.
From there, we expanded into producing dedicated tech-focused videos for Greg’s blog. These pieces explored emerging technologies like artificial intelligence, 5G networks, blockchain, and digital privacy. Each video needed to make sophisticated concepts accessible to a broader audience. However, we always maintained journalistic integrity throughout the process.
Documentary Tech Video Production: From Journalism to Investigative Filmmaking
More recently, our work has evolved into deeper documentary tech video production and investigative filmmaking. For instance, we’re working on an ongoing project examining genocide through historical and technological lenses. This brought us to film at Auschwitz. Consequently, this type of work requires a fundamentally different approach. We balance technical precision with the sensitivity and respect that serious investigative stories demand. You can see more examples of this type of work in my documentaries and interviews portfolio.
The transition from conference coverage to documentary work reflects the evolving nature of tech storytelling. Indeed, modern documentary tech video production often intersects with historical narratives, human rights issues, and the ethical implications of emerging technologies.
Multi-Location Production Across Europe
Our collaborative work has taken us across Europe. We’ve filmed in Barcelona, Paris, Brussels, Berlin, Zurich, Cologne, Rome, Amsterdam, Lyon, Nice, Frankfurt, and Perugia. Each location presents unique logistical challenges. These range from securing permits at historical sites to adapting to different lighting conditions and cultural contexts.
Managing these multi-city productions requires advanced planning and portable equipment solutions. Additionally, we need the flexibility to maintain consistent cinematic quality across varied environments. Whether covering a tech conference or filming a documentary interview, the goal remains the same. We create visually compelling content that serves the story.
Ultimately, every project with Luminative Media is both a professional challenge and a shared creative adventure. This long-term partnership proves that creative collaborations can evolve and grow alongside the changing landscape of video production.
